Judd trudged to work, thinking over his predicament. His life had changed a lot since his youthful marriage to his sweetheart Pat. He had adored her and she him. They thought they would grow old together, but it wasn’t meant to be. After giving him two beautiful children she had died.

The next day Judd returned home, Gerald was able to say that Carmi was doing better. Judd checked for himself and was happy to find Gerald was right. The next few days proved that Carmi was over the worst and on her way to a full recovery.

Judd was now in sight of his house and his stomach knotted. Would she still be alive? It was the thought that had entered his mind on his return home, every day for the last week. He had to work though, they needed the money.

Judd trudged over to the Patels, they didn’t live too far away, only a fifteen minute walk but it gave him time to think and order his thoughts. He hadn’t realised how important Carmi had become to him and it was a shock to realise just how scared he was of losing her.
