Lord Marquis looked attentive as Sister Madeline entered. He asked “You find my wife well I hope?” he was curious as to what her urgent business with Eveline had been. Sister Madeline replied to him “She is well, I was informing her that I have come to take Lyndsay’s place she won’t be returning here.” “Ohh” said Lord Marquis feigning surprise “Is she ill?” Sister Madeline replied “m’lord please lets drop the charade, we both know exactly why Lyndsay isn’t coming back, you kissed her. Lyndsay a young girl and a nun, you made a move on her whilst your wife is risking her life to provide you with more children.”
Instead of looking ashamed as she hoped he might, he looked affronted and started to protest with “Now wait a minute, I don’t know what lies Lyndsay has been spreading..” “Lies!” Sister Madeline almost screamed back “Lies, shes a nun Lord Marquis and you accuse her of lying?” “You best be careful Sister, this is my house and if you continue to talk to me in that manner you will not be welcome here.”
“Really?” countered Sister Madeline “And what will you tell Eveline then, when you throw me out? How will you explain my sudden departure?” There was silence whilst Lord Marquis took in the truth of what she said. If she were to leave suddenly as well, Eveline would have a lot of questions and what if Sister Madeline took it on herself to make Lyndsay version of events known to Eveline, who would she believe? She idolised him but Sister Madeline was a nun and Eveline was very religious, she would find it hard to believe a nun could have made the whole thing up.
Whilst he was considering Sister Madeline continued, she had come to say her piece and she was determined to get it all out “I knew of your character when Sarah told me of how you treated her and little Abigail who looks so like you that no one could doubt she is yours. However I assumed that someone Lyndsays age and a nun living under the same roof as your wife would make her unattractive, it seems though that there isn’t any level you won’t stoop to. It is fortunate for you your wife has no idea of your antics but perhaps one day that will change.”
His eyes narrowed as he looked at her and he said “Is that a threat Sister?” “No, I have no plans to tell her the truth myself at present but your reputation is becoming public knowledge, I would say it’s only a matter of time before it reaches her ears.” “At present?” inquired Lord Marquis. Sister Madeline explained “I care nothing for your reputation, but your wife is a good woman and I don’t wish to see her harmed, I won’t tell her whilst she is pregnant. I know how much this baby means to her, but afterwards who knows? I have not yet decided.” “It seems we have little more to say to each other” said Lord Marquis and he returned to his chair and his book.
Sister Madeline left him to it and went to check on Asher. She held the baby sorry that its father was such an unprincipled man and so undeserving of the loving wife he had married. But as Sister Madeline knew life wasn’t fair, but God in his infinite wisdom had a plan in everything. Meanwhile Lord Marquis was seething in his chair. He was being dictated too by a Nun. She hadn’t even let him try and explain. This was all becoming much more messy that he had anticipated. He had thought that Lyndsay would fall for his charm, he never imagined she would run back home and tell all to Sister Madeline. He thought he could have a harmless fling and end it whenever was convenient and now Sister Madeline was considering telling his wife the whole truth, well he couldn’t allow that to happen.

My goodness! That is soooo great! I wish I could say I couldn’t believe Lord Marquis tried to deny it but that is so like him! He doesn’t believe he should treat women or other people with respect and that he can take what ever he wants! How he couldn’t believe that things have got messy! He has a very simplistic view of life if he really thought he could get away with his behaviour for every! I know he is a Lord but he isn’t untouchable! Coming on to poor Lyndsay like that! That Sister Madeline has balls threaten him like that! It’s sooo funny that the Lord isn’t going to get it his way as usual! It’s great that Eveline doesn’t know what his like yet! I wonder if Sister Madeline will tell her once the baby is born! This is very exciting! What could Lord Marquis do to stop Sister Madeline telling his wife! Hmmm not a lot that I can see! He can hardly kill her and she is a nun so people will believe what she says! Hmmm very interesting! Will have to wait and see! Hopefully not too long!

Ewww. I don’t like him at all, I hope she tells his wife. I hope he doesn’t do anything to her before then though, he wouldn’t hurt a nun would he?
