Lord Marquis looked attentive as Sister Madeline entered. He asked “You find my wife well I hope?” he was curious as to what her urgent business with Eveline had been. Sister Madeline replied to him “She is well, I was informing her that I have come to take Lyndsay’s place she won’t be returning here.” “Ohh” said Lord Marquis feigning surprise “Is she ill?” Sister Madeline replied “m’lord please lets drop the charade, we both know exactly why Lyndsay isn’t coming back, you kissed her. Lyndsay a young girl and a nun, you made a move on her whilst your wife is risking her life to provide you with more children.”

Sister Madeline trades places

Sister Madeline marched towards the Marquis estate. She had left Lyndsay composed and had made her promise to take care of the church whilst she was away. She had given her a long list of chores, hoping that if she kept her busy she wouldn’t dwell too much on what had happened. She had also had a little chat with Sarah before she left, telling her what had happened and asking her to not discuss it with Lyndsay.
Sister Madeline’s main priority now was to get to the estate before Lyndsay was missed so that Eveline wouldn’t become suspicious. As she arrived Lord Marquis was just coming from the woods. He greeted her with “Sister Madeline, what a pleasure.” She replied “I wouldn’t be so sure m’lord, but excuse me I need to see your wife.” Leaving him looking confused behind her she proceeded up the stairs and found Eveline reclining on her bed.

“I love him” thought Lyndsay whilst she was kissing him and then other thoughts started to rush in “Did Sarah love him?, what did he tell her?” Lyndsay thought to herself “How many women have fallen for this, he said he was sorry for cheating on his wife and here he is kissing me”. When this realisation dawned on her she pulled back from his kiss. She felt unsure what to say and worried she might weaken so with one last look at him she ran back towards the manor as fast as she could.

In Lyndsay’s absence

Life carried on at Hope church in Lyndsay’s absence. Sister Madeline knew Lyndsay was enjoying her stay with the Marquis’ lending a hand to Eveline whilst she was pregnant, but Sister Madeline found she was really missing her. Lyndsay had been almost like a daughter to her and she would be missed just for that, but also she was realising all the things that Lyndsay had taken care of round the church.
Lyndsay had been good with customers in the little shop and Sister Madeline was noticing her takings were down, without Lyndsay persuasive charm which encouraged customers to be generous to their worthy cause.

The first few months passed very quickly for Lyndsay in her new home. She came to adore little Asher and enjoyed looking after him even if he was very hard work at times.

Eveline gets some help

Eveline was delighted with her new little boy Asher, he was the miracle she had been hoping for and with his birth brought her new hope that the large family she had always dreamed of wasn’t to far out of her reach.
When she fell pregnant again she was overjoyed, but even she had to admit it would be tougher this time with little Asher to care for as well and started to consider that she could use more help. They had some girls from the village that came into cook and clean but what Lady Eveline really wanted was someone who would live and in and could be trusted with her precious baby.

Sarah coming to live at Hope church brought a few changes but the biggest one for Lyndsay was hearing so much more of the outside world. Sarah explained how she had become pregnant out of wedlock (although of course omitting her own role in it) this had shocked Lyndsay but she had also told her many different stories about all the different types of people living in Golden Valley. It made Lyndsay realise that she wasn’t part of it and would never be as a nun.
Sister Madeline takes on an apprentice

Sister Madeline had run the little Hope Church for many years now, the plague had killed all but her, she had been there and helped those who were dying but that was many months ago now. The problem of what would happen when she was gone was fresh on her mind and so it was at the foremost of her thoughts when she heard about a little girl orphaned in the plague called Lyndsay.
